we make clothing for people who want to feel good in their clothing (and bodies!) that means we're obsessed with perfecting the lived feel and fit of fabric on body! we spend a lot of time adjusting our patterns, testing our garments, and making sure our pieces actually work across our whole size range. 

we use deadstock fabric whenever we can, and we prioritize natural fibers when they make sense. sometimes we use polyester if it is deadstock, because the fabric already exists. to us, giving that fabric a life is better than letting it be thrown away and contributing to more fabric in the world.

we do not believe there is a perfect way to make clothing because we believe there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, and we are not interested in pretending otherwise. what we can do is make better choices where we have control: producing locally in san francisco, working with factories that pay fair wages, and staying closely involved in the process from start to finish.

“dress for your inner kid” comes from the part of me that has always used clothes as a way to feel more like myself. i have always been very particular about what i wear. as a toddler, i only wanted frilly underwear, but i hated the way socks felt on my toes, which is funny now, obviously. my mom also loves to tell people that i used to cut holes in my leggings because i liked the sound the fabric made when it ripped. lol.

i was really shy growing up, and i think getting dressed was one of the ways i could be expressive without having to be loud. i wore mismatched converse because i liked how they looked, and i wore different eyeshadow on each eye. at some point in high school, i decided i had to wear something leopard print every single day. i have tried almost every hair color, but pink has always felt the most like me. like maybe i was supposed to be born with it and there was some kind of mix up at the hospital?! 

so “dress for your inner kid” is less about dressing a certain way and more about not forgetting that clothes can still be playful, and a little weird. they can be comfortable and cute!! and if you have ever been duped by a kids’ clothing brand online because you thought the clothes came in adult sizes until you actually clicked the page, nettle might be the place for you :)
