GET TO KNOW: GAYLENE!
We met Gaylene years ago at Renegade Craft in Chicago and it's been love at first stitch ever since...

So... we sat down with Gaylene to ask her a few question about her life and HER CLOSET!!
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you located?
I grew up in the Chicago Lakeview Neighborhood. I have wonderful memories of living in the city. My grammar school was located right down the street and I attended there from Kindergarten through 8th grade (a rarity these days with middle schools). I did not venture far from the city and moved to the suburbs in my early 20's. I guess you can say I have been a Midwest native my whole life.
My career has spanned many different avenues...government, private sector, hospital foundation as event coordinator and school district. I work part-time as a school bus driver for one of the largest school districts in Illinois transporting students to schools and events. What goes around comes around as they say.
I currently reside in a Chicago northwest suburbs, Rolling Meadows.

What is your Nettle origin story? How were you introduced to the brand?
I have always enjoyed craft/art fairs. And over the years I've attended many. I came across the Chicago Renegade Craft Fair information and attended the one where Nettle Studios, Woll Jewelry and Jenny Lemons were selling their wares. I have always had an eye for things that are different. I bought a few pieces at that fair and been hooked ever since.
Note from Nettle:
We'll be at Renegade Craft in SF on March 28th & 29th if you want to see our stuff IRL and fall in love like Gaylene did!

Where is the best place or occasion to wear Nettle?
Nettle Studios pieces are a show stopper. Whether you are wearing as an everyday wardrobe or for special occasions. All are special since they are small batch. They catch your attention because you don't see them everywhere and on everyone. I've had so many people stop me to give a compliment on Nettle clothing.

What is your favorite color, print or fabric we’ve done?
I especially love the linen and cotton (twill included) pieces and quality. The lime green is one of my top color choices. But I embrace all the bold colors (they are cheery). The denim pieces are definitely worn a lot and very excellent fabric quality too. And that says a lot because there are numerous denim choices out there on the racks.

What is your favorite pant/top/dress style?
I have several mid-easy style pants which I wear mostly in the warmer climate. I'm getting into the barrel pant style now and own many. My favorite dress style has been the trapeze style. I've had several custom made.

What is your most worn piece?
Probably the garden pants and matching tank top. It's groovy looking and brings back fashion memories for me.

What is your dream Nettle piece?
I've always loved the look of corduroy and it would be really neat if Nettle Studios made some pants, dresses, coats, jumpers in this timeless fabric. Purple corduroy one of my favorite colors in this fabric.
BTW....I would like to see the return of snaps on Nettle pieces. They are easy to do for those of us who are getting older. The buttons on Nettle pieces are eye catching as well and noticed. Received a compliment on the Polka Dot Denim SLVS top heart buttons.
